“Hermione, how can you suggest something so ridiculous?” “Well, I couldn’t name the first set Albus and Minerva because Harry had already called dibs on ‘Albus Severus,’ Severus.” “Who was the one who wanted to spend six years at the university before starting the family?” “What does that have to do with anything?” “Only that if you’d started earlier, you could have called ‘dibs.’ Not that I want you calling anyone in this family such a ridiculous name.” “I wasn’t for a moment thinking of calling anyone ‘dibs.’ Give me some credit.” “I’ll give you all the credit you want after the hormones have balanced again.” “That is so unfair! I’m the one who has spent almost twenty-seven months carrying your six children!” “Yes, and I gave into that argument the first time, which is why the heir to the combined Prince-Snape-Granger lines is named Henry Prince Snape but only ever goes by Harry.” “I thought that was a good compromise considering that Henry isn’t even Harry’s real name.” “And I didn’t object to the name Ginevra Minerva for his twin, though it is quite awkward.” “Of course not, since Minerva is one of your precious Latinates.” “I’ll be sure to tell the Headmistress you feel that way next time I see her.” “No… Se-ev.” When he didn’t answer her, she went on. “I just think we need to look to the future. I think people will get the wrong idea if these twins are named Lucius Herminius and Narcissa Severina.” “Well, Lucius Severus and Narcissa Hermione wouldn’t work because your name is of Greek origin. The Princes have given their children Roman names for centuries.” “That wasn’t the point.” “And what is, that we can name our children after your friends but not mine?” “Minerva is your friend.” “They saved my life!” “I was tortured in their home!” “I’m not suggesting we name her Bellatrix.” Brandishing the baby-name book, she said, “What’s wrong with Zara, Zoe, or Zandra?” “While you’re on that page, consider Zanita if she takes after you.” She glanced down before rolling her eyes. “Long teeth, really?” “If the shoe fits--” “Is there one that means ‘big nose’?” “Ooookay, so if you like Zandra, why not just go with Sandra? Sandra Snape. I could live with that.” “Hmm, Sandy. Sandy Beach, Sandy Shore, Sandy Shore Snape?” “Sandra Severina Snape?” “I suppose I should consider myself lucky they’re not triplets, because then you’d just name them as they came out: Quintus, Sextus, Septimus.” “Of course not! For one thing, one of them is a girl, and I would never name one of our children anything with ‘sex’ in it. Don’t you know how children tease?” “Says Severus to Hermione,” she answered dryly, losing the energy to argue. Attempting to prop up her swollen ankles, she sighed. “Will you rub my feet?” “Can we name the girl Severina?” She leaned her head back and closed her eyes. “As long as you promise to stay away from Death Eater’s names.” “I can’t guarantee that. I do have some family names I haven’t suggested yet. I have a cousin named Claudia Quintina. She was the fifth child. She never took the Mark, but Lucius did have a thing for her.” “That’s fine.” “I thought you already agreed to Severina?” “I did. That’s fine, too.” Her whole body was relaxing as Severus rubbed her feet. “You’re lucky I love you, Hermione Snape.” “I know.” Saturday night prompt from silverdoe: HG and SS are trying to come up with names for their twins (boy and girl). SS wants to name them after Ancient Romans, but HG want to name them using names like the celebrities have been using. A/N: The names Severus suggests are from a Roman name website. The Z names are from a different website. I tried to answer the prompt, but I always find twins in fanfic to be funny, so I amped up the crack factor. |
