It is very hard for a child to understand how much their mum and dad love them. We may not love the things they do, but we alway love them, just as Severus and Hermione love Willow, magic or no magic.

This is one of the most superbly crafted stories on this subject I've ever read.  I have seen others on a similar topic, but this one stole my breath and my heart.  Every parent has gone through the heart wrenching moment with their child when they realized that their most fervent dream would never come true: 

"Watching Willow weep that early morning out of deep-seated frustration was difficult in and of itself, though not nearly as grueling as accepting there was not damn thing I could do about it."

I wanted to gather all of them up in my arms and protect them from their reality... just like Severus want to protect Willow from her disappointment and Hermione from her grief for her child.
