I've always thought that Snape and Lupin could be friends. I'm looking forward to seeing their friendship flourish.

The 'real' Snape that he shows to the outside is that man. However, he still loves Harry and will always see him as his son. Later, Harry will learn about his past and that will be an enormous hurdle for both men to overcome.

Well, this is getting more complicated, isn't it?I think Lily will soon have to take a long, hard look at her relationship with Severus.And Severus may well have to face the bitter truth -- his and Lily's relationship isn't healthy for any of them.Off to read the next chapter.

It's too bad Lily can't be honest with Severus. He's working through his issues and accepting Harry- wow! that is huge! Any relationship that cannot bear the truth is doomed to failure.

i couldn't review the previous chapter because it was just too sad, and i wasn't sure if i would keep reading, but i figured i'd see where you take things. it is an interesting take on why snape behaved towards harry as he did. i always like snape and lupin as friends, so i like that development. and i liked your choice of song at the beginning of this chapter. i've always loved that song, and the lyric is very fitting to this situation.

At laest he seems to have found a friend at las (whether he likes it or not). I can see how it would tear him apart to see so much of James in the boy he loved as his own. I suppose if he would stop treatinh Harry so badly, then he wouldn't look at Severus with so much hatred.

And so begins the process of Snape shutting himself down emotionally. How terrible for him to feel that his family has been ripped from him. I can see why he would feel even more guilty over Lily's death now - she chose to kill herself rathether than be with him. I wish he could see it was her faul, not his.I hope he finds some light at the end of this dark tunnel.

Poor Severus. It's tearing him up to keep this inside and slient. It's wrong - If he'd only been honest with himself and with Harry he'd have a deep friendship with the boy. Harry would react to him like he did to Hagrid, if only to know more about his mum. But it's interesting twist as to why Snape is so bitter toward Harry.

I hate this happening to Snape. Poor guy. The reasons he doesn't want to tell Harry are understandable, but I can't wait for him to "get on with it" and tell him. LOL I also like that he was wondering where his boy was when Lily was being buried. That strikes me as a true parental instinct. Good work

That is so sad, actually. I hope things improve for Severus. To live a life like that. It was amazingly selfish of Lily to do that to him.

I just want to shake Dumbledore, and ask him what he was thinking! I'm still upset that he took Harry and gave him to Petunia.
I wonder who he will find love with. When will Harry know the truth (I hope before he grows up).

I know you had to send Harry to the Dursley's and I love how you made everyone believe he came on Nov. 1. I will keep reading this.Can't wait to see where you go with this.

On the road to self-destruction... I do wonder how you will make your way to the whole canon with Snape in this mindset. Plus, I already pity Harry, because he will feel all the more guilty when he learns about the truth.

I know your/JKR's reasons for having the plot sending him back to the Dursleys, but it really is horrible when you see Snape's reaction you have created. Amazing that DD preaches his faith in love yet does not have faith in Snape's love for Harry and sacrifices it coldly for the usefulness of Severus the spy.RE: “Well, she committed suicide because she could no longer bear fucking me.” and As time passed, Severus began to wonder if he would ever know the love of a woman who wanted him more than anyone. Perhaps he wasn’t good enough or worth it. He grew to become even more sensitive about his lack of good looks and sank deeper into the image he believed Lily had felt about him... - So well written I was almost to the point of crying.You portray his on-going self-loathing well. This came to mind - Snape seems to cloak himself in misery, and wear a mask of hate and indifference. Stalking through life haunted and hounded because the love he craved was cruelly and selfishly denied. Once again thanks for your imagination and penmanship (Hmm...tapping) and I am keen for the next installment.Cheers.

In later chapters there will be a confrontation between Dumbledore and Severus. Severus will not forget how Harry was taken from him and the resentment will continue to build.I like what you wrote.
