A Non-HBP, Non-DH, AU DM/HG fanfic.
(Acronyms: The Next Parseltongue.)
Set in a world where HBP and DH never unfolded, this AU plot bunny leapt out and throttled me last night, after perusing some DM/HG "Head Boy and Girl" fics. I really hope to keep it short, and of course all my other fics are screaming for endings, but what's another unfinished project? :) Rated for future chapters.

Reviews for Looking and Seeing
I am very much enjoying this story. Particularly the relationship between Snape and Hermione. As an avid Snanger fan, I love when people realize how the two can have such a friendship. Snape is not a nice character, but I think that circumstances can definitely evolve that would enable the two to become friends.
I think your characterization Draco is wonderful. He really is just a spoilt brat who hasn't thought beyond his teenage years. I look forward to the development of this story.

Thanks! Herms is so easy to like if you're not jealous of her. And Draco is definitely a teenager but I think he's going to do a lot of growing this year...

You've got a way with words - Draco's point of view is hysterical in a scene that could have been rather morose. "entwined in the blankets like a frizzy burrito" Heh, great mental picture!

Thanks! Yeah, that was almost snarky enough to be Snape's POV, but I'm really trying to keep this about Draco. ;)
Depression is a horrible thing. I know. But, what is Draco going to do with this info? And the playboys are going to hate it if she ends up friendly with Draco. They probably don't even know about Snape.

Yeah, I think they'd not look too kindly on such a union. And Draco might just be growing up enough to make good use of the facts, one would hope.
So, now he's a peeping tom? Draco is going to have lots to answer for if he is going to be redeemed. I still iiked the chapter.

Yes to both. He certainly seems to feel an enhanced sense of entitlement, doesn't he? But he should have learned his lesson with Blaise, that this spell is more trouble than it's worth.
Enter Snape! And confuse Draco and everyone of your readers as to what's going on with her. 
I like that Draco is begining to try to understand her, and that Snape seems to care about her. 
Write quick! I want to know what happens next!

Huh.. That was interesting. I like cool, calm, collected, then slightly unsettled Hermione. Draco kind of threw me for a loop in this chapter. Perhaps his conquest-oriented nature?

I don't think he's out for conquest so much as out to annoy Herms in a whole new way.
Well, Draco & Blaise certainly got what they deserved, didn't they? I'm enjoying your story - I usually don't care for fics that start with so much exposition, but I found the scholarly discussion device you used in the first chapter to be clever and interesting, and was hooked with the Granger's downfall mystery remark at the chapter's end. I like the way you're developing the two main characters, and I'm looking forward to more chapters.

I hear that about the expo--I don't like them either, but I wanted to set an extremely AU stage and it seemed like the only way to do it without writing a huge novella was by telling it. I thought the scholarly thing would give me a nice way to wrap up the story--just continue the interview from that last line, once all the plot bunnies were through.
Ha ha ha ha ha. Oh, they both so deserved that.

Yeah, that's some pretty serious peg-taking-down for a couple of teenage hotshots, I'd say.
He calls her a bitch for covering him up? He needs to be taken down a couple of pegs, I think. And I totally want to know Hermione's story.

I think he just hates having to admit that she just might be a nice person. But he definitely has a ways to fall at this point.

Yeah, I had to have a snark chapter. And I don't think Pans neccesarily DOESN'T want Draco, she's just sort of SETTLING for him while secretly lusting after Harry.
Pretty good for a first try at DM/HG, wouldn't have known it if you hadn't said so.
I wonder why she was sitting in front of the fire... unless it didn't actually mean anything and Draco was just being paranoid, well moreso.
It seems like everytime she is kind or shows good manners he gets more upset with her.
And I'm still curious about Blaise's project.

Thanks for sending me here. It is very interesting how you stories and styles vary. This one seems young and edgy. Will there be any dastardly intrigue? Will we see Harry and Ron or are they too busy being playboys? As for your other unfinished projects, I do have hopes for Private Lessons.

I really will get to all of them. I have to follow my muse, though, and I'm a little burned out on Heirs at the moment. So I'm indulging in this one, in hopes that I'll be re-energized for the others again.
Now I'm curious about Blaise's project, and what, if anything, it has to do with Hermione...

I kinda think so too. But that seems to be one of the themes of these DM/HG stories, right--the creepy kid growing up into a decent young man. We'll see.

I envision that after clobbering Voldy and watching Harry and Ron turn into commando playboys, Herms has too much on her mind to waste any effort on Draco. But things may change...
