I won't even comment about the huge cliffie at the end this time because oh my, what a chapter! So sad about Pertus. I'm glad Hermione was able to get Severus to let down his guard a little bit, and stop his constant occluding so he could relax and let some of that tension go. Hopefully there is some more "releasing of tension" in the next chapter. ;) Keep 'em coming!

LOVED the scenes in Pompeii... but am confused as to how Hermione's body is still in the present. Makes me wonder if she and Severus are involved in some sort of out-of-body experience together -- is he, also, in some sort of coma? If so, will she be the one to pull him back to consciousness? (I loved the story behing the Vettii brothers, and how excited Hermione was to meet them. The snog was LOTS of fun, too, but I hope the Aedile doesn't hear about Severus snogging his "niece.")

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm afraid I can't answer your questions about what is going on, but all will be revealed.  I'm putting clues in as I go along so you will be able to work it out I hope. :) Best wishes, :Px

Well, how perplexing! Part of me wants to try to puzzle it out, but I love being surprised. Still greatly enjoying the story...one of the few that I am reading that is a work in progress, because I get so impatient. Thank you for your faithful updates, and can't wait for the next!

I really loved the hot kiss between Hermione and Severus - they've got a certain chemistry. How can she be lying in a muggle hospital in the 21st century when she is snogging Severus in the first? This whole story gets more and more mysterious. Great chapters I'm curious what answers you'll give us in the next chapters and what new mysteries and questions will arise. Great story, amazing plot!

Please tell us this isn't all just a product of Hermione's coma-ravaged imagination! They were making such progress, too...Seriously, this has been a fascinating read, learning a bit of archeological history along the way. Makes me want to dust off my passport! Thanks for posting--hm88

Wow! So this is not like the penseive or Tom Riddle's diary -- or is it? It was never made clear what happens to a person's body when their mind visited those other realities.
And if she is not really there, how will she bring Severus back with her?

Excellent update! I liked how Hermione was so fascinated by watching Severus brew. The images of Flitwick's office seem spot-on.The description of Harry's first Vespa ride was HYSTERICAL.

I was glad to see an update. I really am enjoying the story and like how you are moving between the two time periods. Both are really well developed. I have come around with Flitwick as head, well done there. I love how you craft such wonderful details in both time frames. Harry sick on a Vespa? Too funny! Of course, I hope they don't find Hermione's remains at the present day dig but we shall see. I look forward to the explanation as to why Snape has a picture of Hermione and also the story and meaning behind the glass vial she kept. But not too soon.... Your pacing is really great!

Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)

Hi

Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)

!  Delighted that you are following the story. All will be revealed, I promise you! I liked drawing the contrast between Harry being so good on a broom ('cos he's in control of that), and hanging off the back of an overburdened scooter.  If you've ever hung on for grim death to the back of a motorbike because your boy/girl friend is trying to impress you, and they're driving like a maniac... that was the sensation I was trying to evoke!  The next chapter is really close to going up, I hope, and the one after that is in the queue for the brilliant admins here after that. Thanks again for your review - I am so pleased you liked the chapter! Best wishes, :Px

Huh, now you've thorougly confused me.You've got a point with preferring Flitwick over MM for headmaster. I loved Harry's problems with the Italian language and the  traffic! Your story makes me long for visiting Italy again, although the era of knickers, bras, flush toilets and baths with a plug would be fine, thank you!  SS and HG are nicely dancing around each other--although they should be frantically searching for their escape.

Oh, what does Gabrielle mean when she says that Alberto has found Hermione? It doesn't sound good to me...quite a cliffhanger, because it could be either her body or the picture in that villa.Well, and I'm really curious about her underwear solution, it will be much easier using magic than it would for any of us in her situation, won't it.Great chapter, I really enjoy reading this story!

Wow what a ride!  I have been sick and then out of town since the beginning of the year so got to read the last few chapters all at once.  What a splendid tale.I loved the tie-in of them being Severus' ancestors and it all not just being 'a dream'.  You did so much wonderful research and I thank you for that.  It's rather bittersweet to being leaving Pompeii behind.Looking forward to your next works.

Many congratulations on the completion of this fabulous, complex saga.  As a reader that was intrigued by JKR's lore of Horcruxes and the concept of the restoration of a split soul through repentance and regret, I really loved your take on the way Severus managed to heal both himself and Hermione through his sincere wish to make right the injury he somewhat inadvertently did her. And as an archaeologist (though not one who works in the Roman world), I found your Pompeiian episodes utterly fascinating and very well researched, from what I can tell.  The only question I'm left with is about the original mosaic, that Hermione fell through.  If they went back to the house she was excavating, what would they see?

Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)

Hi

Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)

- thank you for your review - and in particular for your professional approval!  Wow!! *happy dance* You raise a very good question.  I made it clear in the Prologue that it was a boiling day - so hot that all of her colleagues had retreated to have their lunch out of the burning heat of the midday sun.  I also tried to show that there was a heat haze and that Hermione was pushing herself beyond her normal limits becasue she had become particuarly fascinated by the portrait that she was unearthing.  As an archaeologist, you know how extraordinary it is when you find a new artifact(!), and Hermione was unearthing a new mosaic portrait (and there are very few of those indeed).  the other thing to bear in mind - as one of my reviewers pointed out near the start of the story actually - is that Severus has the colouring (dark hair, dark eyes and olive / sallow (!) skin tones) that would not be out of place in Italia.  All of that gabble leads me to this point: she was unearthing a Roman portrait - which, as she began to lose her concentration under the extreme heat - and the influence of the horcrux within her began to morph into a specific portrait of Severus.  If you were to go back to that very portrait, you would find a male portrait - in the Roman style, glowering back at you!  Does that answer your question...? Pxx

I have really enjoyed this story. It has been touching, exciting, heartbreaking, and funny. What more could a reader ask for? And of course the fact that Severus' friends were real people just makes it that much more special.

! I'm so delighted you enjoyed it. The Vettii were indeed real, although we only have tantalising glimpses of their lives.  Their bodies were never found, and we know that in the weeks before the eruption, hundreds - probably thousands - of the wealthy inhabitants of the city left with as much portable wealth as they could.  The Vettii probably got away, because their bodies were never found. Fingers crossed - I got very fond of them by the end of the writing the story! Thanks for your support over the past year!  Pxx

What an amazing wrap-up. I loved the image of a weakened Severus, desperate to protect Hermione from Poppy - who meant her no harm. I loooooooooved that they found the graves of the Vettii, and that you could still read the inscription was wicked. I love that they found a way to communicate with Hermione and Severus in such a way (I'm assuming they did this purposefully). The epilogue was beautiful. I love that he called her "Anima Mea." I simply adore it when the title of the story works in like that. :)
