It starts with a few letters from one extremely grouchy Potions maker to the manager of a used book store. Canon through Deathly Hallows to the point of Severus Snape's supposed death at which point it becomes AU.

I do like this format of "courtship by correspondence" bypassing the superficial prejudices and pre-existing opinions. Ok, he knows who she is, but he is more in need of anonymity. Very good!

She is doing "Simon" a great service by not coming out and calling him "Severus". I think that at this point, she is well aware of who he is, or at least of who she wants him to be.

This is an outstanding achivement bringing these two together in this manner. You both have managed to explore the emotional nuances of both characters so completely and truthfully through the letters. None of it seems contrived or forced, this is good reading at its best. I am curious did you split the writing the letters between you, one taking Hermione's perspective and the other taking Severus's?

I try to see things from Simon's (Severus') perspective and I think Darned Child does an excellent job of portraying Hermione. And I think it's a very good compliment that you couldn't tell that. This is so well written (often co-written fanfics suffer from inconsistancies in writing style and other things) that I willing to bet two things: you are both amazing authors and you have an awesome beta. Anyway, back to the story. I loved this chapter and how the plot moved forward a little (but not too much). It was perfectly paced. I can't wait for the next part--it's getting quite good.I saw that the next chapter is in the queue, so hooray!

I actually let out a squeek with glee when I saw a new chapter was up. I have waited for this! Let me say that I don't remember the last time I sat down and hungrily devoured EVERY word in a piece of fan fiction. In fact, I can recount only 2 or 3 ever that I have! But this is one. I want to pour through this as slowly as I can to savour every exchange. But I also want to tear through and find out what happens next! So I usually must read it twice. I don't know how else to say that I am enjoying this so so much.

It was time she finds out who he really is. I'm more surprised however that he let slipped out so much in his letters. He is softening which is probably a good point considering his burgeoning feelings towards her...

Great story! The build up of their friendship (and possibly more later) is great. I started laughing at "Grandpa Simon". I wonder when she'll find out who he really is. I love the names of the owls, very clever. I can totally picture Hermione naming her owl Leontes. And Yorick--can we call him an owl? Chicken? Alas, Poor Yorick! (I've been waiting the last five chapters to use that quote in a review, and this seems to be the most opportune time).

Leontes is a character in The Winter's Tale, husband to the character, Hermione! So, I really liked the naming of her owl.
